Chinese New Year With Much Stress and a Bore!

I don't know whether it is my age of getting older or whether it is the timing for Chinese New Year that is not right this year. First, our house did some minor renovation for a few days before Chinese New Year where we have to clean up the dusts and dirts in the house, not to mention the house preparation for the Chinese New Year. It is all very tiring and stressful having the house cleaned up for guests to visit. It adds more to the stress thinking about all the stuff (unopened boxes since we moved) occupying rooms that were meant for my son's room and guest room.

Then we spent two days mingling with our parents, in-laws and relatives. And another two days we spent at home recuperating. The wet market is closed for a few days and the streets are all very quiet. The other headache is giving "ang pows", to make sure they are enough. Chinese New Year is not as fun as when I am in my younger and cheeky days where I get to wear new clothes, collect lots of "ang pows" from uncles and aunties, lots of favourite food to eat, fireworks, chatting and running around with my cousins. For a second , I thought that life would be different for my son because he won't get as many cousins like I use to have because not many of us have more than 2 children nowadays. Well, those were the days!

The only thing I find rewarding is eating Chinese New Year cookies but it also mean I could gain a few pounds of weight. Then I will look more like an aunty. Sigh!

I saw this nice mural on the wall when we go shopping at the newly opened SS2 mall.


And for this Chinese New Year, I found my favourite cookie. It's a chocolate mixed with cornflakes and peanuts with crunchy biscuit in the middle. I can finish the whole bottle in one day.

I will try to make this cookie myself in one of these days.......

My treasure......and I don't leave any crumbs behind.

Vegetarian Fair at Titiwangsa

I never heard of a vegetarian fair before until I was told about it when I went to my parents place last Sunday (28th November, 2010) . I was excited and eager to find out what's in that fair. I mean I am pretty interested in all foods fair but never got the chance to go to any of them. So, it was a hush decision to go there at about 11am. The food there is almost sold out by the time we reached lake Titiwangsa. It is the oldest lake in KL and I have never been there for say, 20 years or so. Yeah, I once told my friend that we are all pretty excited and even make it our mission to travel to other parts of the world, to see other countries' tall building, oldest castle and lake but never bother to visit our own. How so? I don't get it. Maybe it is the mindset of the conveniency in visiting those places that we don't think much of visiting our own historical or unique places in our country. But now I think it should not be so.

Well back to the vegetarian fair. First, you have to buy cash vouchers in order for you to buy food. The fair is not too big with a few stalls surrounding the lake side. They pretty much sell the same thing, rojak, nasi lemak, pau (dumpling), ice-kacang, fruit juices, pizza and etc. I am interested in trying their pizza but too bad the stall is too crowded that I didn't even get a foot in front of that stall. Overall, it is nothing much to see but I do hope they have a much more interesting vegetarian products next year.

They are frying something yummy.....but can't really tell because it is too crowded....

KLM Charity Tulip Sale 8th May 2010

I have always love tulips but never seen the real one. So,last saturday, I had the opportunity to participate for the first time in the KLM charity tulip sale. I arrived at the concourse, sungai wang with my husband and baby about 10.30am and the queue was already very long.

Maybe I should make it very very early next year if I plan to go.

It took us about one hour to queue, to make donations and queue somemore for someone to attend to us and finally time to choose tulips.

Each tulip costs RM 5 each and RM 10 for the limited edition dark purple "Black Hero".

Rabobank and Dutch Bank will each contribute RM1 for each flower so as to make it affordable for us to purchase at RM5. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to UMMC Children's Cancer Fund.

When my turn comes, most of the beautiful tulips are already taken. The ones that were left looks like they need some freshen up with water. I took the last stalk of Black Hero (that was what the staff told me) and chooses a few stalks. All the colours are beautiful but I especially like the white ones.

                                       

Once I got home I took this picture and send it to my friends to wish them Happy Mother's Day. I've got 3 bundles of those tulips.One for myself and the others,i've given them each to my mother-in-law and my mother.

  

The flowers seems to be a bit exhausted....

The instruction to care for the tulips was given in the wrappings. How thoughtful....

Instantly those tulips look fresh when I place them in a jar of water.

They still look pretty on Monday but today they all withered away. I Googled over the internet and found that Tulips generally means perfect love. Black tulips on the other hand, symbolizes power and strength.
